At 38 Avenue Montaigne, the Italian house occupies three arched bays of a stone building. The façade is the shop’s first volume: three arches, two windows framing a recessed entrance, and a sign that lights nothing but itself.
The shoot took place after closing, as the seasonal display was being changed. It is the only window in which a boutique can be photographed as it was designed — no one in frame, and no light but the shop’s own.
From blue hour to full night
The session follows a shift. At blue hour, the sky still holds the stone: mouldings, balconies and window boxes stay legible, and the day’s rain turns the pavement into a mirror beneath the three windows. At full night, the façade recedes and the interior becomes the only source — the glass disappears, and the shop seems to open straight onto the street.
The display, from wide view to detail
Indoors, a glazed roof covers the central gallery and paces the perspective. The series follows the autumn collection: field jackets, checked tweeds, felt hats, riding boots, and the objects line — basketry, marquetry backgammon boards, stacked cashmere, leather.
Detail counts as much as the wide view. A wooden mannequin hand closed around a bag, two pairs of boots on a tray, a stack of throws on a shelf: these tight frames carry the material and the care of the install, where the wide view carries the space and the route through it.
