Fragments de territoires

A series of plastic photography and visual collages: diptychs connecting the landscapes of my native archipelago with mainland France.

Fragments of Territories – Plastic Photography and Visual Collages to Connect Opposing Landscapes

Continuing the exploration of memory and its imperfections begun in my “Mémoire de Paysages” series, which was exhibited at L’Arche in 2021, the “Fragments of Territories” project delves deeper into the autobiographical themes of memories, their imperfections, and transformations. This new work combines plastic photography and the documentation of the creation process, aiming to connect the visual and temporal landscapes of my native archipelago and mainland France.

Series Description

“Fragments of Territories” is a unique artistic project combining plastic photography with visual collages. Each piece presents a diptych that juxtaposes a view from my native archipelago with a view from mainland France or elsewhere, creating a dialogue between contrasting visual and temporal landscapes. Its originality lies in the crossing of borders, both geographical and emotional.

This series aims to question how distance, the ocean, and memories can be transcended through art. Each diptych will be installed outdoors, at the exact location where the photo of the archipelago was taken, offering a unique interaction between the viewer, the work, and the landscape.

Creative Process

The creative process behind “Fragments of Territories” is based on an innovative photographic approach combining landscape fragments, photomontages, and plastic collages. Each work explores the dualities between opposing landscapes to reveal a dialogue between rural and urban, past and present, and nature and architecture. The project stands out for its ability to articulate these contrasts and create a new visual reality.

The outdoor installation of the works allows the crossing of both physical and symbolic borders. These plastic photography pieces act as mediators between the dreams, memories, and emotions of the photographer, while inviting the viewer to reconstruct their own relationship with the territories they explore.

Artistic Goals

With “Fragments of Territories”, the goal is to create a visual dialogue between distant landscapes and to articulate strong contrasts between territories that are often opposites. Each photographic collage is designed to connect personal memories with an artistic interpretation of the outside world.

The series invites the viewer to cross invisible borders, to traverse the ocean or time, and to reinterpret their own perception of reality and imagination. By juxtaposing fragments of opposing territories, the artwork becomes a bridge between two visual and emotional realities.
