From Code to Art: My Journey Through Architectural Photography

A former computer science researcher, my reconversion into architectural photography brought many challenges and revelations. My Journey from Computer Science to Art

My path begins in the structured world of computer science. For years, I explored algorithms and code, but a latent passion for photography drove me to reinvent my career. Leaving behind a stable path for an artistic quest was a leap into the unknown, full of uncertainty but also promise.

Changing fields is never simple. It meant accepting the uncertainties of the art world, acquiring new skills, understanding the nuances of art, and adapting to an unpredictable way of life. This documentary captures these moments of doubt and discovery within the “Fragments de Territoires” photographic project, carried out throughout 2022.

Finding Inspiration in Architecture

Architectural photography opened up a new world of aesthetic exploration for me. Capturing the beauty of urban structures and public spaces became an all-consuming passion. My goal is to reveal the soul of buildings and places, and this film shows how this vision has evolved over time.

Although I left the world of computer science, my technological knowledge has enriched my artistic practice. Using advanced techniques to capture and edit images has made it possible to create unique works that combine technical precision with artistic expression.

The “Fragments de Territoires” Project

“Fragments de Territoires” is at the heart of this documentary. This large-scale project consists of a permanent installation in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, an archipelago with breathtaking landscapes. Each photograph tells a story, capturing the essence of the place and its inhabitants.

The idea for “Fragments de Territoires” was born from my attachment to my native archipelago, with its rich history and unique landscapes that offered the perfect setting for this project. The documentary explores the genesis of this idea and how it came to fruition.

This permanent installation in the archipelago is a work of fine-art photography inspired by street art and land art; it builds a dialogue between the landscapes of the archipelago and those of major European cities, notably the greater Paris region, through digital collage work.

Spread across four islands, the works are set into the urban and natural landscape at the precise location of their photographic inspiration, offering a reflection on visual and cultural dualities. Installed in September 2022, this artistic intervention is intended to remain in the public space for years to come, bearing witness to a deep commitment to Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon.
