“Bribes” at the Forum des images
Two images from my series Mémoire de Paysages are on show at the Forum des images in Paris, in “Bribes”, a group exhibition presented alongside “Demain”, the international festival of documentary film from the French overseas territories, organised with the overseas division of France Télévisions.
Gilles Elie-Dit-Cosaque curated the exhibition and designed its scenography. My images of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon sit alongside views from French Guiana, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin, La Réunion, French Polynesia and New Caledonia.
The series was shown in 2021 at L’Arche, in Saint-Pierre. Its principle: architecture built elsewhere, set down in the landscapes of the archipelago.

Galantry, ce qui veille, 2021, 120 × 80 cm. A row of wooden houses and, above them, a huge concrete saucer on its pillars. Galantry is the headland that watches over the entrance to the port of Saint-Pierre. There was a lighthouse there, demolished in 1980. The image puts another lookout in its place, and you can’t tell whether it protects or watches.

Cap Noir, l’archipel vertical, 2021, 30 × 30 cm. A tower of stacked wooden houses, in the middle of a street in Saint-Pierre. Cap Noir is the headland next to Galantry. I asked myself what becomes of an island that has run out of room: it goes up, but with its own houses.
