The Caryatides by Manolo Nuñez-Yanowsky, located near La Défense, are a monumental work that boldly reinterprets a classical architectural element—anthropomorphic columns—through a resolutely postmodern lens. These feminine figures, embodying the fusion of tradition and innovation, rise within the urban space, engaging in a dynamic dialogue with the surrounding architectural landscape.
Capturing the symbolic power and unique geometry of the Caryatides was an opportunity to highlight a place where art meets architecture. The juxtaposition of classical forms with modern lines, characteristic of the postmodern movement, offers a striking visual framework for architectural photography. My photographic report showcases how these figures stand with elegance while interacting with their contemporary environment, notably the modern towers of La Défense.
Nuñez-Yanowsky’s Caryatides demonstrate how postmodernism plays with aesthetic codes to propose a radical reinterpretation of traditional architectural forms. This type of project highlights the need for a professional architectural photographer who can capture not just the structure, but also the conceptual essence of the work. Through this report, I aimed to reflect the tension between past and present, and to reveal the expressive force of these modern colossi within a complex architectural context.
For real estate developers, architectural firms, and communication agencies, such works require impactful visuals that convey the narrative power of these architectural creations. The Caryatides, with their singularity, demand a meticulous photographic approach, where every detail must be captured to reveal the scale of the work and its visual impact on the urban landscape.
